Our history

The Colline di Selvapiana e Canossa dairy is the result of an agreement signed on August 25 2011 between the Latteria Sociale Selvapiana and the Colline di Canossa society.

1945
Establishment of the small cooperative mountain dairy.

1945-2005

In almost 60 years in business, generations of cheesemakers succeeded one another, carrying on the tradition with the utmost respect for the age-old production methods.

2005

Acquisition of the production facility by Dalter Alimentari.

2006

1st prize at the Bath and West Show 2006 in category Class Dp44 European Designation – any cheese, any weight which has either PDO, PGI or AOC designation. Very Highly Recommended at the Nantwich International Cheese Show 2006 Category DP35 Creamery Block Cheese.

2007

Acquisition of a 50% stake by Dalter Alimentari Spa. 3rd prize at the Royal Bath & West Show 2007 category Hard Pressed Cheese.

2008

1st prize at the World Cheese Awards category: 61A: any hard cheese that has been awarded DOP;
1st prize at the Bath and West Cheese category: class 35  Hard cheese of any variety other than Cheddar made from any milk.
3rd prize at the Nantwich International Cheese show, category: DP 137 Best Italian Cheese.

2009

Total acquisition of Caseificio Colline di Selvapiana e Canossa by Dalter Alimentari.

 

2010

The “Colline di Selvapiana e Canossa” dairy obtains  ICEA Certification for the production of organic Parmigiano Reggiano.

2011

Establishment of the Caseificio Colline di Selvapiana e Canossa consortium, with an agreement signed between Caseificio Colline di Canossa (wholly owned by Dalter Alimentari Spa) and Latteria Sociale Selvapiana.

2012

The premises and production equipment of the dairy are restructured and renovated throughout to boost efficacy and to control the whole Parmigiano Reggiano production process.

2013

Gold Medal at the World Cheese Awards category: 5506 – Any hard cheese that has been awarded a Denomination of Origin. Bronze Medal at the World Cheese Awards category: cow’s milk: semi hard, hard, very hard cheese.

Spino d’argento Award presented to the cheesemaker Andrea Caiti for the excellent results obtained in the testing of the wheels assessed by the experts of the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium. A very high percentage of the wheels produced in 2012 were placed in the “Parmigiano Scelto” category, denoting the highest level of excellence.

Award of “mountain product” (prodotto di montagna) classification for the factory’s Parmigiano Reggiano.

2015

The “Colline di Selvapiana e Canossa” dairy obtains two important certifications: BRC – British Retail Consortium and IFS – International Food Standard..

2018

A year full of awards! We won the 1st prize at the eighth edition of the Palio La Culla, exceeding for excellence 16 dairies in Reggio Emilia and Parma.
A second place instead for our dairy, at the 52nd Fair of Parmigiano Reggiano of Casina, historic event dedicated to our PDO cheese.
